Collaboration between ICT managers

Hi all,The SchoolTech Ning has been very quiet since the week after conference. We are all to busy I would guess.Time to stir things up a bit I think. In the West we have an ICT managers e-mail list and a few years ago I tried to start things moving with a Google group to collaborate on everything. You know the scenario put up names of suppliers that are doing well, share technical information that has been valuable, discuss the merits of technologies as they make headlines on the web. It seemed…See More

It probably could be done now but whenever I have approached Telco's about IP services on their Mobile phones they have been less than interested. This could be changing as they realise that data is the way ahead but they are still very voice…

I think this can be done now with current technology, how ever needs the support of the telecommunications company. All connections currently go back to the provider, who allow or deny the connection based on your $ mobile plan, so the next logical…

Great point Jeremy, That reflects that second last slide on my PowerPoint about not instantly thinking about how do we block things. I would love to be able to blanket the Colloege with Mobile Phone coverage that was directed back into our…

Wouldn't it be terrific if we could leverage the connectivity that 3G provides and somehow get the student's 3G connection get directed through our monitoring/filtering systems. That way, the students could really be using school provided…

Collaboration between ICT managers

Hi all,

The SchoolTech Ning has been very quiet since the week after conference. We are all to busy I would guess.

Time to stir things up a bit I think.

In the West we have an ICT managers e-mail list and a few years ago I tried to start things moving with a Google group to collaborate on everything. You know the scenario put up names of suppliers that are doing well, share technical information that has been valuable, discuss the merits of technologies as they… Continue

The irony of my SchoolTech Conference

I have been thinking about the conference and a thought occured about many of the discussions I had about Teachers and their PD.

It occured to me that I am not using the tools I have been expousing as worthwhile. I have not been active in so many of the ways I was looking at the need to get teachers active in.

The whole thought of sharing resources is brilliant and I have been talking about it for years, but how can we get sharing going within our community that will then… Continue

Help with Wireless

Hi Kids

I couldn't think of a better place to ask for help

We are a notebook school (yr6-yr12 and all teachers)

The problem we keep having is when a whole class of kids try to connect to an online resource - some can't connect to the site, those that do are very slow and some are fine

Basically I'm after advice on those of you that experienced the same problems and how you went about resolving them

Thanks so much
